Insect Breathing — Shinobu & the Butterfly Mansion Unlock

Updated Sep 20, 2026

Insect Breathing comes from Shinobu Kocho at the Butterfly Mansion: Level 25, 15 Demon Horns, 3 Beast Cores and 3,500 Wen. Its poison damage makes it the natural partner of the Kocho clan.

Insect Breathing is trained by Shinobu Kocho at the Butterfly Mansion — she sits on the roof, and the unlock is the cheapest in the game: 3,500 Wen plus light materials on top of Level 25. It is the poison-damage style, and the only one with a clan pairing built into its design.

Requirements

| Requirement | Amount | |---|---| | Level | 25 | | Demon Horns | 15 | | Beast Cores | 3 | | Wen | 3,500 |

How to Unlock: Step by Step

  1. Hit Level 25 and gather the Horns, Cores and Wen.
  2. Travel to the Butterfly Mansion and find Shinobu Kocho on the roof of the building.
  3. Hand her 5,000 Wen to start training — the wiki lists the starter handover at 5,000 with the 3,500 figure cited for the full material package; bring both amounts to be safe (数值以游戏内为准, sources differ).
  4. Complete her tasks, returning after each one.
  5. Insect Breathing unlocks; Awakening becomes available at Level 50 back at the Mansion.

The Poison Build: Insect + Kocho Clan

Insect Breathing's poison damage has a multiplier effect with the Kocho clan — the Legendary (4%) roll whose passives include Poisonous Body and Poison Resistance. Tier lists call Kocho the best clan for a poison build, and Insect is the style that makes the pairing work. If you roll Kocho, Insect is not just an option; it is the plan.

Is Insect Breathing Good?

Insect sits mid-to-high in early rankings — the poison ticks add up in longer fights, which makes it stronger in PvE than the raw burst numbers suggest. It is also the cheapest style to unlock, which matters in a game where materials are your real bottleneck.
